ON THE RUN
Jacob: The Saucony Endorphin lineup has been a staple in my rotation for a long time, and when they introduced the Endorphin Elite 1 back in 2023, my eyes perked up. Cut to 3 years later, the Endorphin Elite 3 has improved on the original design and then some. I think of this shoe like I think of a carbonated energy drink. It is smooth and soft putting on, but you feel that explosiveness and snappy feel as you go. I felt fast, light, and super springy. Based purely on comfort, this is one of the more comfortable fitting race day shoes on the market.
Joe: I’ll admit, I approached the Saucony Endorphin Elite 3 with some hesitation. The original Endorphin Elite felt overly firm to me, almost like running on a spring-loaded brick, while version two seemed to swing too far the other direction with an extremely soft ride that lacked some responsiveness. With that history in mind, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from version three.
My first run in the shoe came after I had already logged a hot and humid 7K in a daily trainer, with another 10K still left to finish on a muggy, spring Michigan evening. That made the initial impression even more noticeable. Once I settled into a comfortable pace, I realized I was consistently running around 15 seconds per kilometer faster without any major increase in heart rate or perceived effort. The shoe simply made faster running feel smoother and more efficient.
That has been the biggest takeaway throughout my time in the Endorphin Elite 3. It doesn’t feel harsh or overly aggressive, but it naturally encourages you to move quickly. The ride feels fluid, controlled, and efficient in a way that stands out most once you’re locked into longer sustained efforts.

THE FIT
Jacob: Saucony has mastered the art of the fit. A lot of their new updates have just fit like butter, and the Endorphin Elite 3 is no exception. The upper is the biggest improvement between the old and new model. This is like the spiderweb of uppers. The new upper is updated with a lightweight knit material that feels both fitted yet stretchy. The shape of the shoe is also very forgiving. Most race-day shoes are on the more narrow side, but this shoe would be a great option for someone who has a wider foot or a higher volume foot. The heel cup also works well keeping my foot locked down.
Joe: The fit on the Endorphin Elite 3 is spot on for me in a men’s 12.5. Saucony did an excellent job with the upper, creating a sock-like fit that feels lightweight and race-ready without sacrificing lockdown. The foot stays secure through faster efforts and cornering, while still remaining comfortable over longer distances.
More importantly, it gives you the feeling you want from a racing shoe. The second you put it on, there’s an immediate sense that this shoe is designed for one purpose: running fast. That confidence matters on race day, and the Elite 3 delivers it before you even take the first step.
The PWRTRAC carbon rubber outsole has also impressed me. I haven’t fully tested Saucony’s “all conditions” traction claims in a downpour yet (as fun as it sounds) because I’d prefer not to risk my newfound goal-race shoe, but from what I’ve assessed so far, Saucony holds true to their claim.

THE FEEL
Jacob: When I received this shoe, I wanted to take it for two different runs; a slower run and a faster run. I wanted to see how the cushion responded to different paces. I felt for my slower run, the cushioning was very soft, malleable, and comfortable, but the faster I ran, the more the shoe firmed up under foot. This is thanks to the IncrediLux foam, which is used in Saucony's race day and high cushion shoes. I almost compare it to Oobleck, that slimy material that feels super squishy when touching, but then when it gets picked up, it firms up. The IncrediLux foam feels so soft when just putting it on, but when you take it for some quick runs, it feels a lot firmer and responds to the pavement very well. My only complaint is that it is a LOT of cushioning. I am a max cushion fan, but this is almost too soft. For someone whose looking for a more stable plated option, this is not the best shoe for that. But for someone who is looking for the most padding on a plated shoe possible, this will be incredible.
Joe: The defining characteristic of the Endorphin Elite 3 is the way the IncrediRUN midsole responds under different efforts. The best comparison I can make is oobleck from grade school science class. The foam has a similar non-Newtonian quality where it adapts depending on how much force you put into it.
At easier efforts or later in runs when fatigue starts setting in, the cushioning feels soft and protective. But as the pace increases and you apply more force into the ground, the foam firms up noticeably and works together with the newly designed slotted carbon plate to create a much more responsive and propulsive ride.
The result is a shoe that feels dynamic instead of one-dimensional. It can absorb fatigue well during long efforts while still delivering aggressive turnover when you need to close hard or chase someone down late in a race.
The 40mm midsole initially felt substantial underfoot, but the stability is significantly improved compared to version two. Despite the amount of foam, the platform feels controlled and smooth throughout transitions. At just 7.2 oz in a men’s size 9, the shoe also manages to feel impressively lightweight for how much cushioning it provides. The 8mm drop feels slightly lower in practice due to the way the IncrediRUN foam compresses and rebounds during the stride.

THE NITTY GRITTY
Jacob: As Drake one said, "I am here for a good time, not a long time". This shoe lives by those words, same as many carbon plated shoes. It might not give you 400 miles, but it is going to give you speed. I would wear this shoe for either longer speed workouts or longer races. It is tough to compare this shoe to other plated options, just because of how much cushioning there is, but I'd compare it to an Alphafly or a Cielo X1
Joe: This is very clearly a race-day shoe, and specifically one built for longer efforts. For me, the Endorphin Elite 3 feels most at home from the 10K through the marathon. It might feel like a bit much for an all-out 5K – save those shorter race distances for Saucony's Endorphin Pro or Speed, but once the distance increases and efficiency becomes more important, the strengths of the shoe really begin to shine.
After limited side-by-side testing against the New Balance SuperComp Elite v5 during an interval session, the differences between the two became more apparent. Overall times ended up being fairly similar, but the way each shoe achieved those efforts felt different.
The SuperComp Elite v5 came across firmer and slightly snappier, with quicker cadence and shorter ground contact feeling more natural. The Endorphin Elite 3, meanwhile, felt smoother and more fluid throughout sustained efforts. By the end of intervals, I consistently felt like I could maintain pace a little longer in the Endorphin Elite 3.
The IncrediRUN foam also became more responsive the harder I pushed. At moderate efforts, the ride leaned softer and more cushioned. But once more force was applied through toe-off, the foam noticeably firmed up and provided a quicker response.

THE RUNDOWN
Jacob: The Saucony Endorphin Elite 3 does exactly what it needed to do. Is it fast? Check. Is it bouncy? Check. Is it cushioned? Check plus! The only tweak I think needs to be made is the stability of the shoe. I'm not asking for an arch posting, but just something to help stabilize the shoe while still keeping it lightweight and fast. But for neutral runners, you are going to have a blast!
Joe: Saucony finally feels like it found the balance it was searching for with the Endorphin Elite line.
The Endorphin Elite 3 takes the aggressive nature of the original version and combines it with the softer, more protective feel introduced in version two, while avoiding the extremes of either shoe. The result is a race shoe that feels smooth, efficient, stable, and genuinely enjoyable to run in over longer distances.
Most importantly, it feels versatile within the marathon racing category. It can handle steady cruising, uptempo efforts, and late-race fatigue equally well. The ride adapts depending on what you ask from it, and that gives the shoe a more natural feel than many overly rigid super shoes.
And, after reviewing it the past couple of weeks I can say with confidence that the Endorphin Elite 3 has moved to the top of my list for my marathon this fall, overtaking the SuperComp Elite v5 from it's spot at the top of my rotation.
At this point, my biggest challenge may simply be not overusing it before race day. Even with Saucony suggesting 200-300 miles of life, this is the kind of shoe you constantly want to reach for once you realize how good it feels at race pace.
