ON THE RUN
Kerry: The run was fun and peppy! The arch in this shoe is very pronounced, which would make it great choice for folks who need that support. I enjoyed the shoe overall. Great choice for walking or running.
Joe: The Hoka Arahi 9 enters the market as a steady, supportive upgrade to the Hoka Arahi 8. It's responsive, supportive, lightweight, and has kept me moving forward without asking much from my legs – each run has been an enjoyable experience. The timing of this shoe entering my rotation couldn't have been better. It arrived at the end of a marathon training block, giving my tired feet and legs some welcomed relief during those final daily miles of the taper. Since the marathon, it has continued on as a recovery shoe as I get ready for 50K of pacing duties.
The Arahi 9 feels like a meaningful step forward from the previous version. For me, the Arahi 8 started to feel a little flat after a few weeks, but I haven't experienced that with the Arahi 9. Hoka softened the cushioning, upgraded the engineered mesh, refined the heel and collar, and updated the H-Frame stability system to provide support in a smoother, less intrusive way. The rocker is also less aggressive, making the transition from heel to toe feel more natural.

THE FIT
Kerry: I loved how breathable the upper is, kept my feet cool as cucumbers! The colors are way more fun than many stability shoes. I felt young and energized! The toe box was spacious and the heel cupped me like a well fitting sports bra!
Joe: I wasn't completely sold on the fit when I first put the Arahi 9 on. The length and width felt right, but something about the insole and stitching around the right heel felt slightly off. Thankfully, it hasn't affected any of my runs, and within a few minutes of wearing the shoe, I don't notice it anymore.
The medium width feels just a hair narrower than the Arahi 8, although that may have more to do with the new engineered mesh upper. Hoka uses tighter mesh on the medial side to enhance support, and it gives the upper a slightly more secure hug around the foot. It's not restrictive, though, and the overall fit has been comfortable and true to size.
One of my favorite things about the Arahi 9 is the range of widths. It's available in medium, wide, and extra-wide for both men and women, making it a much easier recommendation for runners who need a little more room.

THE FEEL
Kerry: This shoe was very stable and i felt secure in my mid foot while still enjoying the Hoka mega roll!
Joe: The Arahi 9 has the cushioning feel I expect from an Arahi, with a ride that reminds me of the Clifton but feels just a touch firmer thanks to the H-Frame support. It's softer than the Arahi 8, but it hasn't lost the responsiveness that makes it enjoyable mile after mile.
The H-Frame is a big part of that experience. Rather than relying solely on a traditional medial guiderail, it helps guide the foot more broadly through the gait cycle. For runners who overpronate or have flat feet, that support can be especially helpful. The H-Frame limits overpronation without overcorrecting your gait, while also providing support beneath the arch where a flat foot may need it most. Additionally, as someone with a neutral stride who also has a slight tendency to supinate, I've noticed that the Arahi 9 provides a balanced feeling of support without trying to force my foot into a particular position.

THE NITTY GRITTY
Kerry: I ran a 5K and walked 2 miles. Personally i enjoy the Bondi and Clifton more. The arch is too pronounced for me. I love the Hoka look and style, it will be a shoe i recommend wholeheartedly to our clients who need stability and fun!
Joe: Daily running is where the Arahi 9 shines. It's flexible, smooth, and supportive enough to handle everything from an easy five-miler to a longer day on your feet. The podular outsole design contributes to that flexibility and gives the shoe a smooth transition without the feeling of being locked into an aggressive rocker. It isn't a max-cushioned trainer, but it's more than capable of handling long runs. I've primarily used it for daily and recovery miles, along with wearing it to work and walking around town.
I’m also convinced it could be your half-marathon or marathon shoe. If you need stability but don't want to rely on an orthotic with a neutral trainer, the Arahi 9 provides plenty of support for the long haul. It isn't plated, so you won't get the extra pep in your step of a super shoe, but that isn't really what this shoe is trying to do. Instead, it gives you a consistent, comfortable platform that you can rely on when the miles start adding up.
Comps outside of Hoka: The ASICS GT-2000 is another natural comparison, with a similar weight and a stability system that serves a similar purpose. And while the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 uses medial guiderails to provide support, the Arahi 9 takes a different approach with its H-Frame.
Comps within Hoka: Compared with the Clifton 11, the Arahi 9 offers a similar balanced approach to cushioning, but with stability built into the equation. The Clifton is neutral, while the Arahi uses the H-Frame to provide additional guidance and support. The Gaviota 6 takes that same stability concept and adds more cushioning for a softer, more forgiving ride, but the Arahi 9 is a great middle ground if you don't need all that shoe underneath you.
For its price, the Arahi 9 gives you a lot of versatility. The Gaviota 6 will give you more cushion underfoot, but it comes at a higher cost. If you're looking for a supportive daily trainer that can also handle recovery runs, long runs, walking, and all-day wear, the Arahi 9 is more than enough.

THE RUNDOWN
Joe: I've really enjoyed my time in the Hoka Arahi 9. As someone with a neutral stride, it probably won't become a regular part of my rotation once this review is over, but I already know exactly when I'll reach for it: when my feet are sore, when my legs need a little extra help, or when I know I need some additional support to get through the day after a hard race or workout.
And that's probably the biggest compliment I can give the Arahi 9. It doesn't feel like a stability shoe that's constantly reminding you it's a stability shoe. It simply gives your feet a stable, comfortable platform and lets you get on with your run. Hoka didn't reinvent the Arahi in the Arahi 9, but they refined the formula in all the right places.
